About Pentecost
Pentecost, also called Whitsun, falls on the seventh Sunday after Easter, the fiftieth day counting Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, as described in the Acts of the Apostles, and is often regarded as the birth of the Christian church. Western and Orthodox churches often celebrate it on different dates because their Easter dates differ.
Traditions
Churches hold festive services, and in some traditions churches and homes are decorated with green branches or flowers. In several countries the following Monday is also a holiday, making a long weekend that is often used for outings.
