About Gibraltar National Day
Gibraltar National Day is held on 10 September to commemorate the sovereignty referendum of 1967, in which Gibraltarians voted overwhelmingly to remain under British sovereignty rather than pass to Spain. It is a celebration of Gibraltarian identity and the territory's right to self-determination.
Traditions
Residents dress in red and white, the colours of the Gibraltar flag, and the town is decorated with flags. A large gathering is held in the city centre, where red and white balloons are released, and parties and concerts continue into the evening.
