About Ram Navami

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Rama, regarded in Hinduism as an incarnation of the god Vishnu and the hero of the epic Ramayana. It falls on the ninth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Chaitra, at the end of the spring Navaratri period.

Traditions

Devotees visit temples, recite or listen to passages from the Ramayana, sing devotional songs and in some cases fast. Processions with images of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman are held in many towns, and celebrations are especially prominent in Ayodhya, traditionally regarded as Rama's birthplace.
