About Easter Sunday (Pascha)
Easter, or Velykden, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is one of the most important religious holidays in Ukraine. Its date follows the Julian calendar used by the Orthodox Church for the Easter cycle, so it usually differs from Western Easter. Under martial law it is a working day.
Traditions
Believers bring baskets with paska (Easter bread), dyed eggs and other food to church to be blessed, often at night or early in the morning. Decorated pysanky eggs are a well-known Ukrainian folk art associated with the feast.
